{"id":65376,"date":"2021-08-17T06:39:50","date_gmt":"2021-08-17T03:39:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lawoffice.org.il\/?p=65376"},"modified":"2023-06-27T13:04:57","modified_gmt":"2023-06-27T10:04:57","slug":"israelis-eligible-for-german-citizenship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/script_transfer_new.mowfns.ap-southeast-2.wpstaqhosting.com\/en\/israelis-eligible-for-german-citizenship\/","title":{"rendered":"Israelis Eligible for German Citizenship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You are eligible to reclaim German citizenship if you are the descendent of a German citizen whose citizenship was deprived for political, religious, or racial reasons by the Nazi regime (between 1933 and 1945) &#8211; including all <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/History_of_the_Jews_in_Germany\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jewish citizens of Germany<\/a> at the time. There are two main ways in which German nationals were denied citizenship in this period. Some citizens were deprived of their citizenship on an individual basis on religious, political, or racial grounds under \u201cthe Act on Revocation of Naturalizations and Deprivation of German Citizenship\u201d of 14 July 1933. Additionally, all Jewish German citizens who left Germany were deprived of German citizenship en masse on 25 November 1941 pursuant to \u201cthe Decree Implementing the Reich Citizens Act\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><iframe title=\"German passport for the descendants of residents\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1rlyBBSblAc\" width=\"1744\" height=\"655\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your ancestor was from Germany but was born to foreign parents and never had German citizenship, it is unlikely you are eligible to reclaim German citizenship. Moreover, if your ancestor acquired foreign citizenship <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">before <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">their German citizenship was denied, then you might not be eligible to reclaim German citizenship. However, if your ancestor acquired another citizenship <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">after <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">their German citizenship was denied, then that does not affect your eligibility, nor would you have to give up your current citizenship to regain your German citizenship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you apply for German citizenship you need to attach any evidence you can obtain that your ancestor was a German national prior to their citizenship being denied of them by the Nazi regime. Furthermore, you need to attach evidence that you are in fact directly descended from this individual.
